Let's celebrate Buddy! This is a special page dedicated to our friend, Buddy! I guess it's true that you can't excape fate! Buddy found his forever home and almost lost it, but at only took a little time apart to find out that owner & dog belong together! This is the email I received from Buddy's owner about her forever friend:
I got Buddy when he was an 8wk old puppy from a litter that someone was giving away for free back in 2005. I took good care of Buddy, by the way which is a black lab/golden ret. mix., he got all of his shots and, flea meds, HW meds, walks every day, best foods, best treats, best toys, went to dog parks all the time, I loved him to death. Then when he was about 8 months old my 90yr old grandmother moved in with us (I was living with my mom at the time) and Buddy was just too hyper. My mom had 2 other dogs and then got ANOTHER dog. I was the only one home all day long, cleaning, cooking, taking care of my 2 girls, taking care of my grandma, 4 dogs and a cat and there was nothing I could do to help make it easier on myself except maybe get rid of one of the dogs. None of the dogs were mind except for Buddy. So I put an ad in the paper for free to a good home. A short time later this really nice lady and man with 4 children including an infant came out to adopt Buddy. He needed nothing, I gave them ALL of his supplies, health record, food, etc. All I asked in return was they get him neutered because it was the only thing I hadn't gotten around to yet. I missed him terribley. The next day they called to say how well he was doing, that was the last I ever heard of them and my beloved Buddy. I thought about him the whole next year wondering how he was doing and if he was happy. One day my sister came across this posting on craigslist about what they were calling a black lab/golden retriever/water spaniel mix named Buddy. They had a photo of him but it was a far away photo of a dog laying in a yard by a fence with a yellow lab and it was hard to make out the dog (actually still have that photo attached to my computer). My sister finally after a day or two convinced me to e-mail them about the dog just to see if it was my Buddy, because I didn't believe it was. I asked where they had gotten him from and when they told me how old he was and where they got him from I KNEW it was my Buddy. This was my chance to get back the dog I had missed so dearly for over a year. The lady was so excited to find out I was the person who she had originally gotten him from and kept saying this is meant to be, you found him for a reason. By this time I was living on my own and only had my cat. I was sooo excited. Now don't get me wrong, this family took good care of Buddy medically, they kept him utd on his shots and even kept him on the same food I had been feeding him. BUT the one and only thing they did not do was get him neutered and when I asked why, they told me they did not feel like it was necessary to put him through that. They NEVER walked him on a leash because they said he pulled too much and felt that a choker was "inhumane". I was so upset. He had became over weight from doing nothing but living his life in a fenced in yard. The only time I believed they ever let him in was at night to sleep and even then they said they chained him up to their bed to keep him out of the kids' rooms. He had sooooo much extra hair on him from the winter (this all happend in April) I must have brushed him for hours after I got him home. And thanks to him not being neutered he attacked my sister's rottweiler the next day over a tennis ball. I was so upset, all of this could have been avoided if he had been neutered like I asked, I e-mailed her telling her my frustrations and she called me all that next moring from 7 am until I got up. Then tried to say it wasn't her and wanted to know when a good time would be to come and pick Buddy back up because it didn't sound like he was working out with me. I was like if you come to my home I will take the dog and hide him somewhere and YOU WILL NOT GET HIM BACK, EVER! She said that she had all his papers proving he was theirs so I called my local vet and they said that did not prove anything, that I had a witness to prove that they had GIVEN him to me. Anyhow: He has since been neutered of course and in my opinion is a much happier dog. They chained him to their bed to keep in away from the kids but you know what? He sleeps with my kids every single night, my kids yell for him to come to bed and he comes a running. He loves sleeping with them and they love him sleeping with them. My chihuahua even sleeps with my girls. Hes the best dog in the world and he will never be given up again. I have been through a few dogs in my life that I have given up for one reason or another, but this dog will stay with me until he dies.
Sorry for the long story, you can put it on your website and shorten it up if you wish. Thanks for your time. Here are some photos of him and my other pets. Have a good day Michelle
